Ryan Maguhn nominated as Liberal candidate for by-election in Yellowhead

HINTON, AB – Members of the Yellowhead Federal Liberal Association have nominated Ryan Maguhn as the candidate who will represent the Liberal Party of Canada in the upcoming federal by-election in Yellowhead.

Ryan was born and raised in Hinton, Alberta, where he lives with his wife Nicole and their four year old son Marek. A strong believer in community service, he entered municipal politics in 2012 when he successfully ran for city council in the Hinton by-election. He was subsequently re-elected in 2013. Ryan earned a Bachelor of Science degree and a teaching certificate from Bemidji State University in Minnesota.

Welcoming his nomination, Ryan stated, “I am thrilled to represent the Liberal Party of Canada in Yellowhead. This is an exciting opportunity to ensure that voters in Yellowhead have a strong voice to represent them in Ottawa on important issues. I look forward to meeting residents of our many communities, and earning their trust, over the course of the by-election campaign.”

Biography

Ryan Maguhn was born and raised in Hinton, Alberta. He became involved with municipal politics in 2012 when he successfully ran for Council in a Hinton by-election and was subsequently re-elected in 2013.

Ryan has a history with active and engaged citizenship, beginning when he enrolled in Her Majesty’s Royal Canadian Army Cadet Corps.  Active with the Corps until he aged out at 19, Ryan served as the Regimental Sergeant Major of his Corps, achieving the rank of Chief Warrant Officer.  As a Chief Warrant Officer, Ryan served in a leadership capacity, training Canadians from across the nation.  During this period he was decorated twice; first with the Army Navy and Air Force Veterans of Canada Medal of Merit, and then again with the Legion Medal of Excellence.  In addition to this he was also awarded one of the highest commendations an Army Cadet can achieve – the certification of Master Cadet.

Following high school Ryan attended Bemidji State University in Northern Minnesota, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in addition to his teaching certificate. Ryan also studied at the Rainy River Community College where he served as both the President and the Vice-President of the student association. He then went on to lobby US Congress and State Representatives on behalf of the entire Minnesota State Colleges Student Association (serving thousands of students across the state of Minnesota).  Ryan came back from university and took a job teaching Social Studies at Gerard Redmond Community Catholic High School in Hinton.

A strong believer in community service, Ryan has been coaching senior boys volleyball at his high school and has also served as a volunteer fire fighter with the Town of Hinton.  Ryan currently lives in Hinton with his wife Nicole and their four year old son Marek.
