Local Calgary Team Trudeau candidates blast Conservative’s offensive comments towards women

CALGARY – Nirmala Naidoo, Team Trudeau candidate in Calgary Rocky Ridge, blasted Conservative MP Joan Crockatt’s comments regarding the wage gap for women. Speaking at an event in Calgary on Wednesday, Ms. Crockatt blamed women for choosing lower-paying jobs.

“This Conservative government and Ms. Crockatt blame women for the wage gap, and have shown exactly how out of touch they are with the realities faced by women in the workforce today. Ms. Crockatt’s comments are untrue and highly offensive. An overwhelming majority of women in the workforce face systemic barriers that must still be overcome to ensure women have access to higher paying jobs,” said Ms. Naidoo on behalf of all Calgary area Team Trudeau candidates. “Canadians deserve new leadership and action on the serious issue of pay equity. Ms. Crockatt should immediately and unequivocally apologize to the people of Calgary for her offensive and untrue comments.”
