SUMMARY

The Liberal Party of Canada is looking for a talented, dynamic, results-oriented leader to join Justin Trudeau’s team as Director of Operations (Alberta). The position will be based out of Edmonton.

Working with the President, Executive and Board of Directors of the Liberal Party of Canada (Alberta) and working closely with the Party’s National Field Team, the Senior Director, National Field and the Senior Director, Riding and Party Services. The Director of Operations will oversee and direct the organizational development, outreach, and engagement efforts of the Liberal Party of Canada across Alberta and manage all other Liberal Party of Canada staff in the province. It is a front line job, providing direct training, oversight and support to Field Organizers and volunteers.

Applicants should also have demonstrated active involvement in the 2015 election campaign, preferably in a capacity relating to the Team Trudeau field program. Management and administrative experience, preferably relating to volunteer organizations, would be considered an asset. The position requires an individual with strong communication skills, excellent organizational skills, a data-driven approach to achieving goals, and a positive and inclusive leadership style. The applicant should have a strong understanding of the Liberal Party’s structure and values, and the role that Liberal Party of Canada staff in Alberta play in supporting the activities of the party across the province.

The successful candidate will have a track record of building relationships, a deep commitment to the Liberal Party of Canada, and the ability to deal well with constituents and stakeholders.

Duties and responsibilities may change subject to Executive direction and roles set out by the Party Constitution.

Some travel across Alberta, and heavy evening and weekend work will be required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Organizing mindset, can-do attitude
Ability to multi-task, meet deadlines, achieve goals, and creatively problem-solve
Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills, and a team player
Excellent communications skills, both oral and written
Ability to work a flexible, unconventional schedule
Ability to manage several projects simultaneously and while ensuring they are on budget and on time
Strong attention to detail
Strong presentation and technical writing skills
Strong project management and organizational skills
Experience in volunteer management or grassroots organizing
Experience training, managing, and supporting staff
Demonstrated computer proficiency with Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Google Drive/Google Docs
Knowledge of Liberalist (proficiency is an asset)
Active contribution to the 2015 campaign, ideally in a leadership role
Participation in the Team Trudeau field program is an asset
Understanding of the LPC structure and the role that staff play in supporting Party activities throughout the province
Possess knowledge of Alberta’s political landscape
A track record of building relationships, a deep commitment to the LPC, and the ability to deal with a myriad of constituents and stakeholders
Further political experience (volunteer or paid) at a municipal, provincial, or federal level is an asset
Post-Secondary Education in a related field is an asset
Public relations and social media skills (Facebook, Twitter) are assets
Media-relations experience is an asset
Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle required

DUTIES

Day-to-day management of the LPC(A) office(s) including all staff
Day-to-day collaboration with the LPC(A) Board and Registered Liberals
Collaborating with Liberal Party of Canada staff from across the country to develop best practices and goals
In partnership with National and Alberta-based colleagues, developing and executing a robust, data-driven grassroots and community engagement strategy
In collaboration with the LPCA Executive, set an annual strategic plan to include EDA growth (especially the defunct or non-existent), volunteer base growth and community awareness strategies
Implementing and monitoring election readiness at both the provincial and EDA level
Ensuring the continued growth of the Team Trudeau volunteer network in Alberta
Assisting Executive with the Financial planning and management of Liberal Party of Canada operational spending in Alberta
Assisting with national and local Liberal Party of Canada fundraising initiatives and events
Assisting in the organization of Biennial Conventions, Policy Conventions, Governing Council Meetings and the Executive Meetings when required
Managing the LPC(A)’s internal e-mail communications
Overseeing the LPC(A)’s digital and social media presence
Planning and supporting visits with Liberal caucus members
Providing support for candidate identification and nomination process
Monitoring the Elections Act and Constitutional compliance for all Alberta EDAs
Providing advice and support to ridings, candidates, and Members of Parliament
