Nirmala Naidoo Nominated as Liberal Candidate in Calgary Rocky Ridge
CALGARY, AB – Members of the Calgary Rocky Ridge Federal Liberal Association met Tuesday, December 16 and nominated Nirmala Naidoo as the Liberal Party of Canada candidate in Calgary Rocky Ridge for the next general election. This is only the second time in the last decade that a general election Liberal nomination in Calgary has been contested.
Nirmala Naidoo is an award-winning journalist and broadcaster. She has worked for all three major Canadian television networks, including spending nineteen years anchoring the evening news in Calgary with both Global News and CBC. Born in South Africa, she immigrated to Canada in the 1960s with her family. She graduated from the University of Alberta with a BA in Psychology and Political Science, and studied journalism at Carleton University. She lives in Calgary with her husband, Jeff, and her two sons.
Welcoming her nomination, Nirmala stated, “I am thrilled to represent the Liberal Party of Canada in Calgary Rocky Ridge. Having been in the living rooms of Calgarians for nearly a decade, I believe that Rocky Ridge residents need someone who can hear their concerns, and be their voice in Ottawa. I look forward to the hard work I have ahead of me in 2015 to earn their support.
