FORT MCMURRAY, July 26th, 2014 – Members of the Fort McMurray—Cold Lake Federal Liberal Association met on Saturday and selected Kyle Harrietha as the candidate that will represent the Liberal Party of Canada in the 2015 general election.
Welcoming his nomination, Kyle Harrietha stated,
“The Liberal campaign for chnge on the doorsteps led to our best result in 46 years and I’m truly humbled by the support we received from residents during by-election. Over the next year, as we approach the fixed election date of October 2015, I will continue to meet with residents on their doorsteps from Fort McMurray to Wabasca and from Lac La Biche to Cold Lake.
The Conservative MP for Fort McMurray—Athabasca committed to tackling infrastructure, affordable housing, and the TFW program debacle during the by-election. It remains to be seen whether he is able to accomplish anything on these files over the next year or whether we’ll continue to see the same neglect that has undermined our economy and the quality of life of all residents.
Our region is a pillar of Canada’s economy and we need a federal government that is willing to partner with the province and municipalities to deliver the infrastructure and program funding that is desperately needed. We live in real communities, not work camps, and I plan to work with the residents of all communities to being about the change we deserve.”
Kyle Harrietha has worked for local non-profit organizations including the Cumulative Environmental Management Association in Fort McMurray where he spent 5 years as an Administrator for the Reclamation Working Group, which develops guidelines for mine site reclamation in the oil sands. He also spent seven years on Parliament Hill in Ottawa where he worked as a legislative and executive assistant for several Members of Parliament. He is currently the General Manager of the McMurray Métis where he oversees an organization of seven staff and more than 300 members.
